This tallit design combines words from two sections of the Shabbat morning service: Shahar Avakeshka / At Dawn I Seek You, a piyut (liturgical poem) about the darkness of dawn yielding to the warmth and light of the sun, and Hakol Yodukha / All Will Thank You, a prayer that talks about opening the windows of the sky. How can the sky have windows? But it makes sense to me in the context of Nishmat, “breath,” the prayer that follows these two: breath also opens and closes like a window. Both texts are combined as alternating dark and light lines, with space between two sections meant to resemble a window or gate, or maybe an eye, that opens at dawn as we awake and breathe in the morning air.

PLEASE NOTE: There's some natural variation each time this fabric is printed in the purplish tint of the blue colors (blue ink tends to do this). Sometime it's a bit darker, sometimes a bit lighter. Both are beautiful colors! Please contact me before ordering if this is of particular concern.

(This design is also available as a giclée print, and you’ll find translations of the sections of both Shahar Avakeshka and Hakol Yodukha used on this design at that link, as well.)

Each tallit comes with a matching zippered tallit bag (see last photo), printed on both sides and machine-washable.

Material: Medium-weight cotton and satin trim. Size: 72" long x 24" wide, designed to be warn shawl-style. They're a comfortable size for men and women alike. Please see the F.A.Q. page for more information about how Goren Judaica tallitot are made, and options for customization.
