Tallit: Ahavah / Love
The word “Ahavah,” love, is featured in tones and textures of earth, sky, and body on the back of this tallit. Along the left and right sides are verses 1-11 from Chapter 2 of Shir haShirim, the Song of Songs, excerpted below:
I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valley;
As the lily among the thorns, so is my love among the daughters,
As the apple tree among the trees of the wood,
so is my beloved among the sons ...
... My beloved spake, and said unto me,
Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
My favorite line is the last. It reminds us of the safety and peace that rests at the core of true love, whether that love is between each of us, individually, or between ourselves and God.
